About this item

  • These professional-quality soft pastel sticks are manufactured with only the purest pigments and finest quality kaolin clay.

REMBRANDT SOFT PASTELS are the world's most popular soft pastel with an unsurpassed glow, purity, and intensity. Rembrandt Pastels are made from the best quality, finely ground pure pigments in an extra-fine Kaolin clay binder. The result is a velvety-smooth softness in every color. Each rich color is thoroughly blended and uniform, end to end. Rembrandt pastels contain no hard bits or sharp edges which could cause shiny spots or scratches during application. Rembrandt pastels are hand-checked throughout production to ensure artists the consistency in texture, color, and working qualities on which they've come to depend.

I’m surprised by the quality of these pastels for the price. They are easy to blend and layer (higher quality papers, of course, lead to better results) and the pigments are vibrant. The quality seems to lie somewhere between student and artist grade, leaning more towards artist grade, imo. Nice color selection, as well. The pastels arrived unbroken and in excellent condition. The attractive black box is lined with foam inserts for easy long term storage. I think you can also buy this brand of pastels individually, so that you expand your set over timeOverall, I am very satisfied with this product

I'll begin by saying that I'm very pleased with these pastels. They work exactly as I expected and when I finish these off I'll most likely buy another set, possibly with more colours. The packaging for shipping and storage seems more than adequate for me. None of the pastels were broken and the box seems suitable enough for storage in the long term.Physically the pastels are half sticks meaning, though you could break them in half, I chose not to. The range of colours is nice and I think will be enough to cover many needs. Remember that though they blend extremely well all blending is done on paper so getting consistent colours beyond those in the set is more difficult the smaller the set is.In use the texture is fairly consistent with great coverage for all colours (something cheaper sets don't have). They go on readily but are not so soft they crumble in your hand. They blend very nicely on paper with a tortillon or fingers and aren't so soft they fill the tooth immediately. I've tried them on two watercolour papers, pastel paper and some multi media paper all of which worked fine. They covered pencil and charcoal without issue (though charcoal can blend into them).Overall these do what you expect from a pastel of this type and work nicely. I think they represent good value for the quality and range of colours provided. I'll probably buy them again and might consider one of the bigger sets.

I am just getting started with chalk pastels, these are the best I've found, pure color, nice firm texture, easy to blend. I love them.

I use these for my college class and they are great! The colors are beautiful and pigmented! For the size, these are great for beginners or someone who wants to try soft pastels out because I’ve already gone through my black and white in a span of 4 months, but I am also an art student. 😅 Your hands will get messy, it’s pastels, but by simply washing your hands it’ll come off.

Love these!!! and they layer very good with very little dust on Mi-Teintes Velvet Canson paper which makes all the difference. I like them better than Sennelier. I also use Unison and for hardness Faber Castell and Pitt pencils.

These were recommended by my art instructor. I took my first ever class this winter and thoroughly enjoyed working with pastels. Personally, I think I did a surprisingly good job on my very first pastel, and much of it is because I had all the colors I needed to execute. One of my classmates had a set of pastels from a different manufacturer and did not have the strong red that came with this kit (I lent it to her of course!). Very nice kit, with all the colors a beginner needs, as they also blend nicely to create unique colors.

Had to return the first shipment and I asked that the replacement be bubble wrapped before shipping, so they put it in a big empty box. First one had shattered pastels but a good box, second had good pastels and smashed box… at any rate, I love these pastels. I call them hard pastels as they are more like a NuPastel than, say, a Sennelier or a Unison. I love them for under-paintings and last marks (because they are similar in “hardness” to pencils). They blend easily and dissolve fast with an alcohol wash. I purchased this set to use with my teenage granddaughter but, for me, the dark shades and pale greys are invaluable.

First of all, these are great quality pastels, no question about the pigments being vibrant and they look very nice on paper. They even stick pretty good to drawing paper, and on pastel paper they work very well, of course, but I don't see them blending as well as I was hoping they would. Seem a bit hard for "soft" pastels, although definitely they're not hard. Just my take-if you want something "buttery" to spread and blend well, go with the pricier stuff- Schmincke super-soft, for instance. But by no means are these pastels not great, they just do a different job, different coverage- white paper will show through more with these than with the super soft ones. But, very much worth trying, the price is very decent for this many colors and quality.

These pastels are durable and perfect for the paper I use with lots of texture. Unlike the student-grade brands, the vibrant colors blend and layer smoothly, providing a mess-free experience. The half-stick packaging makes them easy to grip and apply to the paper, and their slightly harder edge allows for detailed work that softer pastels may struggle with. They work as you would expect for an incredible price. The Rembrandt soft pastels come in a sturdy, elegant box that keeps them safe for a long time! I highly recommend them for beginners and practicing artists. The Rembrandt Pastels are a pastel artist's dream. They are soft, blend extremely well, and have a great color selection (up to 90 colors!). If your budget allows, get them; you will not regret it!

As a keen amateur, I had tried oil and soft pastels in the past but found both mediums-compared to my usual oil and watercolours, uninspiring. I wanted a medium that was portable and easy to work with so after recently watching oodles of YouTube tutorials, I was inspired to give soft pastels another try. From the recommended soft pastel brands suggested in the tutorials, these Rembrandt soft pastels fitted into my budget. The box of 1/2 sized pastels arrived well packed. The set has a good range of colours for begginers, while the pastels are not overly soft/crumbly, instead they do blend beautifully-depending on the the pastel paper you are using. I was surprised to find that the ultimate outcome depended not only on the quality of pastels but also the paper you choose. As good quality art media is expensive, and even as beginners we aim for the best results, the types and ranges of pastels are as varied as pastel pads and blocks therefore, I would highly recommend researching the fit between pastels and papers before purchasing. I found these soft pastels work beautifully with Clairefontaine's Pastelmat pastel pad but not as well with the Fabriano Tiziano pastel pad.

Bought this as a present for a my husband who loves to draw and paint. He had another set of rembrant pastels which he bought in store and he said these were just as good in quality. He loves the colours. The only thing is the packaging shows different colours and the colours inside are slightly different. It's still perfect and all the colour you will need for your next piece of art.
