such a simple product, how did i go decades without one? cuts butter and even some semi-soft cheese if you go slowly. might not hold up to dishwasher abuse.

Ordered this item as my partner is always annoyed at my lack of cheese cutting skills ("you butcher a block of cheese" !!). Also fancied being able to evenly cut up hard boiled eggs- such excitement in my life!. The item arrived well packaged in a small card box, with the slicer and a metallic cleaning cloth.Once unwrapped and washed, I put it to work- cheese is beautifully cut with equal slices and hard boiled eggs are now a work of art, with them cleanly cut and ideal for salads or eggy sandwiches. It seems strange to wax lyrical about a cheese slicer, but it is really that good. Cleaning is easy using the metal cloth, ensuring the food is removed effectively from the cutting wires. The replacement of wire at a later point seems easy, with the wires secured at opposing ends by screws and the wire routed through fixture on the base. Price break is excellent, giving you a good quality and robust tool for the kitchen. Highly recommended - i'm off to slice more cheese (just because I can)!

I found this a little underwhelming. The feel of the body doesn't seem robust and it feels risky pushing any amount of weight on it.The size and number of wires on it means you should be able to do a lot of items at once but it doesn't feel robust enough to try that with your fingers about to smash into the worktop if it breaks or slips.The wire is a single strand run back and forth and it has a tendency to stretch with use meaning it ends up slack and more likely to break (see the image, taken after the first usage). Over time, it's going to get worse, I think, especially after cleaning and on anything tough. It's not dishwasher-safe.Struggled to any significant hard cheese or amount of cheese with it. It would work fine for butter or a hard boiled egg, but the cheeses it's pictured with you will struggle to cut through them without putting a lot of weight on it and that increases the chance you'll break it or hurt yourself with it.I think you're probably better off with one of the cheaper plastic-base cutters with the wire, to be honest.

The slicer is perfect for creating smaller slices, which is great if you prefer to use thin portions when cooking or preparing snacks. It definitely adds efficiency to the task.Cleaning it is also quite easy, and the cloth provided works well for this purpose. The slicer is made out of some metal type of material, which is durable and ensures it lasts a long time, however, only time will tell, of course. I do wish the slicer was a bit wider, as it would help when cutting certain items that tend to get stuck at the ends. Overall, it is a useful and well made tool that is great for both cheese and butter, and I would recommend it for its multipurpose functionality.
