I use these to tighten and remove a barrel nut from one of my air rifles. The soft jaws prevent marring of the piece, and that's why I bought them. They do the job and that's all I needed.

Very nicely made pliers. They would be exceptional if the jaw was lined with non marring plastic all the way to the tip of the teeth. These pliers leave the metal teeth exposed at the ends of the jaw. How well they work depends what you're using them on. For my application the plastic protects well. However, the flatter the item that you are attempting to use them on, the greater the possibility that the unprotected metal tips of the jaw wail mar the surface.Update: I've had these pliers a little over a month and already, one of the protective jaws detached. I ordered a replacement pair and will fasten them with double sided tape. This should have not happened so soon.
