I had an ugly stick combo identical to this one, but I lost the top half on my last fishing trip. So I ordered this combo because it works and gets the job done. Sturdy practically unbreakable The ugly stick name has been around for a long time. The reel is nice too . Very smooth and cast well I use mine for Fishing for blue catfish and snake head in Maryland. Excellent pier fishing rod And the rod and the real handles heavy braid Fishing line with with ease. The Rod tip is sensitive to detect those septal bites yet Sturdy enough to handle the big ones. Since I now have an extra reel that is identical, I am going to rig it with different pound test line. I highly recommend this rod and reel. My friend of mine, who is an avid fisherman has them too. Best bang for the buck no question

Finally, able to do a good review on lake Erie. The poles are great action poles, as UglyStick has always been. The reals were tested along side of 2 others higher end reals bought from Cabelas few years back. The UglyStick I say wins. Once you learn where to set your magnetic break. These are great trolling rods. With Dipsey Diver they have a great arch. And very noticeable once the diver releases and still a good size fish on. (Walleye 24") you can feel the fish on. And tell pretty much what it is. If you know you know. Smooth and quick retrieve. I use 20# braid. Little heavy. But you can hold 600+ft with no problem. No problems with bird nesting. Especially once you dial in your brake. Clicker is loud which is good for me. The drag is touchy. Once set to troll. You only need a slight turn to be 100%. But using #1 Dipsies you already have a lot of resistance prior to popping. I bought 4. All came intact. The brake were all set different in the factory. If it doesn't release the line. Loosen the brake is all.

I have owned Ugly Stick rods since the 80's and can testify that they are a tough, sensitive. I have never broken one. Combine that with a quality reel for a great price and you have an unbeatable combination. I bought this one to add a heavier rod to my arsenal.

I love these poles, I fish 4 times a week for half the year so I put them to good use. For the price you can't beat it in my opinion. The reel is decent nothing really wrong with it but it's about as basic as it gets. Still I own 3 of these sets. Also are my go to when I go out.

My grunty little friend here wants you to know that this fishing rod combo is great. The length is just about right at 6 feet for both shore and boat fishing. The action is responsive and quick, but the strength is where it excels. This picture was taken after lifting this fish and a few of his friends up a 15 foot bank. The reel was amazing, so don't listen to the negative reviews. If you appreciate the feel of a finer reel then you should not be looking at a reasonably priced combo. The drag adjust easy, there is large capacity for line, and the reel lets the line flow off during cast great!. I can reach the middle of the river, and fight a catfish to the bank without having to worry if the rod will snap or reel break off. Great combo, designed to work together. If you want to hunt catfish, get this combo!!

I love my Shakespeare ugly stik crappie pole combo. I purchased a 9 foot because I do a lot of fishing from the bank. The pole easily cast out very light lurs and quietly dropped baits on unsuspecting fish. The only negative is the reel is not very high quality but it does the job. The pole is very good quality I love the parabolic bend and the sensitivity so it makes you feel like you have a much bigger fish. I posted a picture of my friend Tina. Check out the bend on the pole with a 3 pound walleye on it. This is a great combo for the price would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Amazon
