Full disclosure; I didn't buy this as a cooking item, though I have several smaller of the same type strainer and think that these are great kitchen tools.This 7.9" model was purchased to separate out ashes and usable coals daily, for maintaining the wood burning stove we heat our home with. The large size makes it efficient for that job and based on performance to date, I hope to have it for a while. Other products have not held up well. If there's a change in this review, I hope to revisit it, but status quo so far is promising.
