I never like prongs because of how fearsome they look. I have 2 dobermans and despite their adorable nature people still are really quick to jump to conclusions about the breed simple by their looks, so I was really debating this.Currently, I have a 8 mos. male doberman and he is a force to be reckoned with. When we go for walks he is constantly distracted by everything and unfocused on training/treats. It was something that I was trying to train out since he was a puppy, but I can't emphasize enough what a goofy playful idiot he is - the whole vet office preps themselves for his bounce and energy. Now that he's massive, he pulls on a choke chain like it's absolutely nothing and, if he weren't a good boy, would be able to pull me off my feet and drag me if he wanted. Thank god for my other doberman who's an absolute doll and just stares at him like "you're ruining the walk."This works so well. I barely have to pull on it for him to heel, I know prongs are safer on the neck than choke chains, but it works so well with such little pull, I've also purchased comfort tips for the prongs just in case. The color is a nice natural rose gold/oxidized copper imo and doesn't cause shedding to a doberman's sensitive skin. This is definitely meant to be for training and not for everyday wear. He does know that when I pick it up, it means it's times for walkies, so he clearly doesn't care how fearsome a prong collar looks or minds wearing it haha

My two big dogs were so hard to walk before this collar! It really makes a difference! And it does not irritate their skin

Herm Sprenger makes amazing prong collars! Solid, German workmanship. My dogs are angels on walks! The chrome collar stained my big dog's fur, so I decided to spend the extra money on the Curogan (16" 2.25mm and 23" 3.25mm) for the hypoallergenic and no-stain features. Alas, both our dogs (a Boston terrier and a Husky/German Shepherd/Pit Bull/Golden Retriever/Cattle Dog mix) have staining on their white fur that is resistant to shampooing. Sadly, I'm returning them and will be purchasing the stainless steel versions.

The product of states that The material used creates less skin reaction than their other product. I’m not sure if that’s true with either of their products. I’ve never had a reaction on my dogs. I bought this because I saw Dog owner that had one and it was very lightweight compared to the silver ones. I liked that factor.

We bought a Herm Sprenger prong collar in chrome 14 years ago. It is still in very good condition. It is a buy-for-life quality product. We are looking for a new one, because the old collar in chrome is staining the white fur of my new dog.We read that the curogen one do not stain as much. - Unfortunately, it is not the case, the curogen collar stained the white fur in a greenish grey after just one use. Returned itStill give 5-star, because the sturdiness and quality. - if your dog does not have white fur that stains easily, this is a great product.P.s. Herm Sprenger USA site lists authorized reseller on Amazon ( like derek’s_good, 101 outlets )

Purchased this after the SS Herm Sprenger prong collar I have began staining my dogs fur black/grey. This one does the same thing. He only wears it for walks and it is ultrasonic cleaned between each use. There is also several spots on the links where the finish is deteriorated and seemingly flaking away. Save your money if your reason for trying this is to avoid fur discoloration.

My 2.5 yo 80 lb. lab/shepherd mix had become reactive on leash walks to the point I was dreading it daily. I hired a certified trainer and was introduced to this brand of prong collar after several positive reinforcement sessions with little progress. I was very hesitant due to it's barbaric appearance, but after learning, researching and testing, I am soooo happy I invested in this collar and so is my dog. (Needed 2 extra links for proper fit.) Been using it for a couple months now. It's a really great training tool. When my dog hears it jingle, he happily lets me put it on. With practice, he's now able to walk past other dogs and not lose his cool. It's like we're finally speaking the same language and he understands that I am in control and he can relax. It's such a relief for both of us and we're enjoying those long walks again. Yay!
