After twenty years of use, I had baking times down pat in my former ovens. When my new ovens seemed to "burn" the top of breads and cookies, I decided it was time to get a thermometer to check their temperature accuracy. I chose the Maverick Oven Thermometer over other models because it was recommended through ratings on various cooking sites.On the plus side, the thermometer is easy to read. It is also accurate and I was able to determine that both new ovens were not only correct, but that they held the desired temperature more consistently than my old ovens.On the down side, the thermometer took much longer to reach temperature than the ovens did. This may be due to differences as to where the thermometer was placed. However, baked goods are "done" in exactly the same amount of time in each of the ovens, so I am not convinced hot spots are to blame. Once the Maverick Oven Thermometer reached temperature, it tracked the ovens' readouts consistently. Further, I had to bend the hook for hanging to keep it from falling off when the rack on which it hung was moved in or out. In addition, the stand for placing the Maverick Oven Thermometer on a shelf is about the same width as the spacing on the rack's grid which makes standing the thermometer difficult. The Maverick Oven Thermometer is also one of the more expensive units being sold on Amazon.Balancing the pluses against the minuses resulted in my rating this a three-star product. I wish I had reviewed Amazon's reviews more closely before I made the decision to purchase the Maverick Oven Thermometer.

Can't read it when it's hanging inside oven. No matter how close to the oven door I hang it the numbers are too small for me to read. Our oven takes a long time to warm up - even when it says it has reached the desired temperature, it is usually 100 degrees below what it is supposed to be. So, I depend on the hanging "thermometer" to give me an accurate reading.

Started out accurate, but not so much any more. Love that it hangs from rack and is easy to read. It's just a little bit off. I still use it, but don't depend on it.

This item does not really fit properly in my oven. It can’t really be hung properly and the base is too small to stand it steadily on the rack. Don’t buy it.
