This product is for use on inclined, tab-shingle roofs and in downspouts and gutters only. To ensure water can flow to the ground, cable should be installed on Unheated portions of the roof (usually the overhang) as well as in Valleys, gutter and downspouts. Roof and gutter De-Icing kits are available in lengths from 30 ft to 240 ft. These products are found as De-Icing and snow melting sets primarily in northern markets beginning in early October.

I installed just before a big snow (10") recently and it worked perfectly. My gutters are free of snow & ice.I recommend this product without reservation. Laying the cable in your gutter is obviously easy. Putting it down the down spout offers a little challenge. I passed a string of strong twine down with the help of a cable snake (buy on Amazon for about $ 14.00. 25 foot length will do) then tied the string to the looped cable and pulled it down from below. Having someone above help by "feeding" it as it's being pulled from below would help (although I did it myself without help). You'll want to measure everything carefully prior to installing. It's not difficult.

A portion of my driveway is in perpetual shade in the winter and all the snow melt runs toward it, eventually building up 3" if ice before the ice starts flowing in toy barn. Salt just washes away. I toss this down before a storm and run it when there's snow melting. Worked great to keep an open path so the water flows off the driveway before refreezing.

Keep in mind, this thing doesn't get very hot. It's only meant to bring the temp of the snow just high enough to melt, it isn't going to start a fire. But is does draw a fair amount of power, so no extension cords that aren't beefy. Preferably directly into an outlet if you can manage. That said, you should mount it on the roof in a way that it will slightly hang off the edge. This will melt a tiny channel for water to follow off the roof. It WONT melt all the snow on your roof, just prevent pools of water from forming.

Last winter we had an issued with an ice dam in a valley on our roof. I bought the 60 foot version of this cable to hopefully eliminate the problem. Installation is straightforward but the clips included don't always hold as tightly to the shingles as I would have liked. The instructions are clear and we had the cable up in a short time.We have had two snowfalls since installation and the cable melts the snow in the valley well. We had enough to run some triangles along the gutter as well and this has made a difference there as well.At this point I am just plugging it in when the snow starts and unplugging it when cable has melted the snow. I'm not using a thermostatic outlet.

We haven't really had much snow since I bought this heating cable, but the light in the plug stopped working after a couple days. The cable still warms up, so it is working for now. Not sure if I can trust it to keep working next Winter.

We were concerned that this would be difficult to insert into our drainage pipe, because our pipe comes straight down and then heads off towards the back of the house, but it was actually very simple to install. We have turned it on once to make sure that it heats up, and it does. Now we have to wait until we have more ice in the pipe and will hope that it will solve our problem of frozen drainage pipes at the corner of our house. In Saskatchewan we shouldn't have to wait too long for things to freeze up!

Works as described, keeps snow and ice melted on nearly flat section of roof which was prone to ice damming. Highly recommend.

Used it to melt ice on the ground and help draining water around the house. Saved me hours breaking ice with axe and sledge hammer. Great product worked well in my case even submerged in water.
