...a little heavy, a little deep, and a little unbalanced.The quality of the materials is great, but I don't know that they're specifically the right materials for this tool because the weight of them is a lot. 7.5 ounces doesn't sound like much, until you compare it with the 2.5 to 3 ounces that the average spatula weighs. And most of the weight is in the handle, so this spider will want to tip backwards, which may not be ideal when you're fishing things out of hot oil or boiling water.For the price, though, I will happily round up to 4 stars rather than down to 3. The construction of the basket itself is solid, if not quite as wide as is ideal for a spider and not quite as flat on the bottom as the product photos make it appear, it is definitely well made. And if you have stronger hands than mine, you may not notice the weight as much as I do.

This is the second strainer/skimmer that I own for the main purpose of using while frying food. I found the first skimmer to be a bit shallow so looked for another skimmer that might be a bit deeper. I found this one and although it is a bit smaller than my original skimmer, it is deeper. Because it is deeper it is more effective at scooping out food without the need for using additional utensils.In addition to its effectiveness, the skimmer is well built and feels sturdy when being used.I definitely recommend this skimmer especially if the purpose is for using while frying foods.
