With many travel rods today, they either come in a collapsible model that lacks the overall strength of a traditional rod, or, they come in several pieces, that don't hold together well. With the former, if you use any super-line, you're eventually going to break the rod, and with the latter, you have to constantly adjust the sections, as they move/twist out of place. With this Ugly Stik GX2, there are only 3 pieces, that fit together SOLIDLY, breaks down nicely for travel, and again, you can use any line with it, without fearing breakage. Ah, and if you do break it, Shakespeare has a great warranty on all of their rods, because they produce quality products, that are a joy to use. Buy it, you won't regret it.

I purchased the 6’6 4-piece medium heavy rod and reel. I travel for work all over the US and internationally. I was looking for something that broke down small enough to fit in my suitcase or attached to my backpack as a carry on. This rod breaks down into 4 - 21†pieces and comes with a bag to carry the rod and reel. I caught some decent largemouth bass with it first trip out and so far has been great. I have this same rod in a 1 piece the feel pretty similar. Definitely recommend this rod if you do travel or are looking for something that does break down.

We bought this pole for a recent trip to Montana, so we could pack it in our suitcase. It’s been a great little rod. We have caught multiple fish on it since that trip a couple months ago. My only issue is that when we first put it together, the tip piece is bent slightly... like a manufacturing defect. My husband convinced me that it doesn’t compromise the rod... but it’s still annoying to spend $60 for a new rod that isn’t straight out of the box. Like he said it doesn’t seem to be affecting the performance of the rod, so we didn’t bother exchanging it. We love Ugly Stik poles, and so far this has been a great little packable travel rod to throw in the car!

Lost the rod tip section of the 6'6" medium 4pc fishing rod the very first time I used the damn thing!I prefer packable rods for storage purposes and have owned many throughout the years and I have NEVER had a single issue before. I was excited to try out an Ugly Stik packable rod since I have always been a fan of this brand. Unfortunately, I did not even get a chance to enjoy the rod because it came apart during the first dozen or so casts on my first fishing trip with it. The tip piece disconnected from the rest of the rod and went flying twenty feet or more into the river and got lodged underneath rocks in a swift-moving current. Like hell was I going to risk drowning to get it back! So pissed and annoyed that this product did not live up to my expectations and immediately upon returning home, I initiated a refund and starting writing this review. Definitely not giving the reel back since it is spooled with quality line I don't want to lose LOL SMHLong story short, the 4pc Ugly Stik rods do not hold up and aren't worth buying.Don't say I didn't warn ya!

I want to start by saying that I probably own over 50 fishing poles. I fish every week. I recently went on a trip to Alaska and decided to pick up two of these for my wife and myself at the last minute. They packed really well and we had two afternoons open to use them. We caught fish. 10 to 25lb salmon. No problem. I had 30lb backer and 25lb leaders on them. I wouldn’t expect them to handle large kings very well but for our trip they were great.

I’m not a fan of this rod, but gave it 2 stars because I did land a bunch of 14†- 16†small with it as well as a 22†pike this past weekend.First, I bought it specifically for canoeing and backpacking because of the 4 sections.Second, I had to send my first rod back because it arrived bent.Third, and the real reason why I can’t recommend this rod, is that when casting 40’ - 60’, the rod would break apart frequently. Usually at the first or second section. I fixed it with duct tape, but that defeats the original purpose of the rod.Bottom line: buy a 2 piece rod or a more expensive 4 piece if you absolutely need the portability.

The 4 piece rod is nice, and seems sturdy, the fact that it goes to 4 pieces makes it easy to transport and pack away. The included carrying case is alright, but not super strong and doesn’t quite fit the reel, but overall the rod is a good 4 piece ugly stick.
